Detach sound from B-roll
QUICK TIP · UPDATED 17 OCTOBER 2026
Give a B-roll's sound its own track so you can trim or mute it.
The Editor works on a laptop or desktop.
Steps
-
Select the B-roll block on the timeline.

-
Select Detach sound in the timeline bar.

-
Select 50 percent to turn the detached sound down.

If something goes wrong
- If Detach sound is not there, the B-roll's sound is off, or it plays at another speed. Set it back to 1×.
- Hiding B-roll with Hide video hides only its picture. Its sound still plays until you mute or detach it.
- To put the sound back, pick the detached sound and select its Attach to button.
